From Corporate Dropout to Fully Booked Virtual Assistant - How I Set Up My Online Business

What I have come to learn is, life is not linear. Our journey is not linear, and our careers don’t have to be either.

Let me unravel my journey for you.

Being an 80s baby, I was wrapped up in a well-meaning narrative. It went something like this: excel in school, gain a university degree, secure a "good" office job, and then, gradually make your way to retirement. Amidst these stages, sprinkle in buying a house and holidaying once or twice annually, and voilà – you've found success.

I didn’t love school, I was quite shy and just kept my head down. While I navigated it with average grades, I never truly understood the art of learning. University was an unexpected revelation. My degree in Environmental Management didn't just offer academic insights, but it ignited a spark, a curiosity within. It taught me to question, explore, and communicate.

Fast-forward, I found myself immersed in the corporate world. Climbing from a PA position, I eventually found my groove as an Events and Marketing Manager. Yet, the spark soon faded. The corporate grind felt stifling, devoid of soul, and I yearned for something more – though I couldn't pinpoint what.

Meanwhile, life in London introduced me to a newfound passion: food and travel. These interests metamorphosed into a blog, capturing my culinary adventures and travel tales. Beyond the words and photos, it was a gateway into community-building, creativity, and a realm of online possibilities.

This was the start of my business journey.

The blog was not just a hobby; it was my initiation into the online business world. From social media management to event planning, I gradually expanded my skillset. A subsequent stint in hospitality added another layer of knowledge.

Then, the pivot came. I transitioned from an employee to an entrepreneur, launching my career as a Virtual Assistant. The last five years have been a mix of success, growth, and continuous learning.

Why share my story?

Because I want you to see, you’re not alone. It’s okay to want more, to want to change your work life balance, to want to take control over how you spend your time and energy.

I’m sharing this so that you can save years working it out, because I’ve done it for you.

I’ve been where you are now, questioning the “typical”, the “ordinary”, not knowing how or what changes to make. Not knowing how to make the leap from a 9 to 5 job, to running your own online business.

Why do I think I’m the right person to show you how?

I have worked IN so many different business, and across a range of industries. You begin to see what works and what doesn’t, especially around business operations and administration and within marketing and sales.

I was fully booked within a few months and have been ever since.

I make my business work around my 4 year old daughter, so I understand the want for income AND flexibility.

I believe there is a different way to live your life

I believe in living your life by design, not by default. This took me so long to realise, but, I don’t think we should all be working in offices until we’re almost dead. I believe we should be LIVING our lives as best we can, filled with the experiences and people that we love. And that we should earn an income alongside this to allow us to live this way.

It’s still a work in progress for me. But, starting my own Virtual Assistant business has allowed me to create a freedom based business where I have a better work/life balance.
